Benji’s Recovery from Puncture Wound

On our way home from a morning walk, Benji sustained a puncture wound in his back right leg after an overzealous greeting from a larger dog.

While at the emergency vet, we sent an email to Cathy.

After leaving the consultation, where we were given the good news that as Benji was weight-bearing and walking quite well we did not need to have surgery. We were given antibiotics, painkillers and an antiseptic wash and told to monitor it over the next 10 days with only essential walking for toileting and not to cover it. To let it heal and if there is any sign of pus or infection to bring him back as surgery may be required.

Cathy had replied to our email promptly suggesting we delay starting the antibiotics straight away – to give the plan a chance to work and to maintain his gut bacteria.

We then chatted with Cathy. She checked/suggested remedies we had – as I didn’t have most – and advised us to leave all that to part of the healing plan.

For future possible situations we discussed having an emergency kit on hand (for humans and animals!) – which arrived very promptly (thank you).

From our end of things – we kept it clean with the odd warm salt water rinse. By the second day after the incident, he was looking towards his regular walk – even if a little slower. The wound progressively improved each day – with minor irritation to Benji.

When the wound irritated him, we used the salt water bath on the wound and the surrounding coat area. Within 10 days it was looking very good. Within 3 weeks it is looking impressive. So good that 3 days before the 3 week anniversary he kept his grooming appointment.

We don’t quite know or understand how it works, but we are very pleased to have trusted Cathy and the Team’s healing plan and now confirm with such good recovery results that it does.

Thank you to Cathy and the Heal with Ease Team,

Sharon Greer
